What’s under the Hood? (I dont actually care because it’s probably attached to a lethargic, 4 speed auto.)

3.9 V6, 240 HP, and yes, it had a 4-speed.

It’s a great car.
Ok, a good car.
Fine, a mediocre car.
But it's f*cking fun to drive, you aren't taking that one away... and we're back at great due to that one thing.

I think marketing these with the SS badge was a mistake. Calling them ‘Sport’ or ‘RS’ would have kept expectations more reasonable than an SS badge does (SS = legit sport sedan, ‘Sport’ or ‘RS’ suggests a slightly warmed over family car).
As for the Maxx itself, a Malibu wagon was a good idea back then and still is now. That whole generation was ugly though.

Ser those numbers aren’t even special any more, Most V6's over 3.o liter are at 150 or more.
The Dodge Avenger/ old Chysler 200 has the PentaStar 3.6 with 260hp/240lb/ft and a 6 speed “autostick”. And yeah The wheole internet hates Avengers, but with this engine the facelifted model actually isn’t half bad.

I’ve always wondered if one of the fwd LS motors would fit.

The Maxx, Especially the SS, has really grown on me. Though that could be because my brother had one.
In any case, the SS looks miles better that the rest with the brushed aluminum/body colour accents replacing the chrome.
